RENOWNED ARCHITECT SANTIAGO CALATRAVA UNVEILS DESIGN CONCEPTS FOR PORT AUTHORITY'S WORLD TRADE CENTER TRANSPORTATION HUB
The new design concepts of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub by architect Santiago Calatrava is now unveiled. The hub, which will significantly improve mass-transit connections across Lower Manhattan will include a permanent Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) terminal, connections to the PATH, ferries and subway lines, more open space in the Wedge of Light Plaza and state-of-the-art safety, security and environmental enhancements.

A temporary PATH station opened on November 23, 2003 to restore PATH service as quickly as possible between New Jersey and Lower Manhattan. The new hub's glass roof, featuring ribbed arches that evoke a cathedral, will open each year to commemorate the anniversary of September 11. Glass-and-steel wing will rise up to 150 feet and natural light will reach rail platforms 60 feet below street level.

By 2020, the World Trade Center Transportation Hub is expected to accommodate 250,000 daily commuters and visitors.
